Adoptions

It was a "lucky" day for seven puppies, two kittens, two dogs and one older kitten. Buffy and Docu were adopted along with Aspen the sweet 3 month old kitten. Not to jinx any of these adoptions, I will just say it was one heck of a day!! Bless all of the adopters, they will need our blessings. The adopters I spoke to were well aware of what adopting a puppy was going to be like. Puppies are not the easiest beings to get along with. I must say though, I was the perfect puppy. Heh, Heh! More about that at some other time. I hope the puppies don't miss their siblings too much. I'm sure the mom, Hickory, is happy they have new homes. Hickory was an excellent mama, putting up with all those needle sharp teeth. Hopefully she will be going to her forever home after she recuperates. Well I am ready for bedtime, it was a great day, bye, Fluffy

Buffy

Well another adoption gone bad, 10 days are just not enough for a family or person to get to know a dog and vice versa. People come in to a shelter and see a cute doggie and one, two, three they adopt. Absolutely no thought whatsoever that the dog needs to adjust to their new home too. So Buffy ran away, WOW! and they just didn't want to handle that. I hope they never adopt another dog or cat cuz maybe the dog might bark or have one accident or heaven forbid, get hungry and have to be fed. If it's more than 10 days the shelter won't take it back if it's not Douglas County, then heaven forbid what could happen to that dog. I don't even want to think about that. More in depth interviews of the prospective adopters should be the norm, not just hurry up and adopt. Fluffy O:)

Halloween

Hi everyone, on All Hallows Eve when the ghouls, zombies, ghosts and anything else you can think of that scares you will be out and about looking to trick you, please have some treats ready! Some other reminders, if you have pets, please put them in a closed room so they won't try to sneak out the open door. Sometimes even the doorbell ringing so many times can make them nervous. So its best to just to give them a treat to occupy them away from the excitement. If you are driving, please be aware of your surroundings, because the little ones sure won't be paying attention. Happy Halloween everyone!! Fluffy

Fluffy Friends

Whoa, got some cool pictures of Halloween getups of some of the shelter dogs and a cat. If any of these "scary" guys show up on your doorstep better give them a good treat or else they might leave a trick for you.

Fluffy Speaks

Hi everyone, Fluffy here. I know I've been away for awhile but now I'm back. Lots of things happening. Some good, some bad . I'll talk about the good. My humans are good. I wish all my four legged friends, this includes cats too, had as good a home as me. Some people think that not all dogs and cats deserve a home because maybe they weren't trained or taught good manners when they were young. What these same people do not understand is that with a little time and a lot of patience any dog or cat can become a perfect, lovable, well behaved pet. I was one of those pets who was "dumped" when I was only three months old. I must admit, I was a little mouthy, but I was hit with a newspaper everytime I opened my mouth. I was just a puppy! Whammo! paper wacked over the head. Actually, I was lucky they dumped me because I was chosen from a lot of dogs at the shelter by the people I now live with who saw something good in me. Supper time gotta go now, see ya, Fluffy

Hogan, Dina and Amber.
Hi all, today at the shelter we had a pretty good event. Two dogs and a cat found homes and a possible adoption tomorrow. If five dogs were adopted I would have to call that a very excellent day, so I'm sticking with a pretty good event. The weather was not bad either. I love Nevada weather. Archie (AKA Alfie) came by with Gordon to get some much needed exposure. He was a real sweetie as always. These events at the shelter bring in a lot of people. Hopefully, if they didn't see a pet they could adopt they would tell friends and neighbors about the great selection we have. Word of mouth goes quite far. Take care all, Fluffy and friend.

Teddy Otter

Hi everyone, DAWG had a great Christmas party last night, was a fun time, really, really good food and lots of it. Yesterday was also a Petco adoption event. Sadie, a beautiful Cocker Spaniel was adopted, lucky her. Wiggles and Floyd have a good chance at finding homes too! We'll keep our fingers "paws" crossed that they get adopted too. Teddy and Otter pictured here weren't so lucky. Maybe next time. Thanks to all of the DAWG volunteers at Petco.

Hi everyone, we had a fantastic day at our shelter event yesterday. Curly, Sage, Lizzie, Wriggley, Tabitha and Maude were all adopted. They will be waiting for Santa in their own homes on Christmas Eve. I hope he can find them all. They have been very good dogs and cats. Don't know the secret to what brought all the people in to adopt, the weather wasn't that great. But hey, I'm not complaining. Wish it would happen more often. Till the next time, Fluffy and my BFF Ginger

Whoa, I hope everyone had as fantastic a thanksgiving as me. Had to run around the block a couple of times with my people. Overeating can make you do that. Now if you were smart you would adopt a couple of dogs. They can take care of leftovers in no time and you might not have to run it off. There are plenty of "hungry" dogs at your shelter, hungry not only for food but love and a warm place to sleep. Come on people, adopt a pet soon. Time for my nap, bye, Fluffy

Hi, got the word Bruno along with Alfie, Ava, Ginger and Lucky are going to be movie stars. These dogs have been looking for homes it seems forever. Our local tv cable channel will be airing their pictures and bios. Not sure yet when. As soon as I can get pictures of the others you'll see them here. If you are interested check out petfinder.com. Hi, just waiting for the trick or treaters to show up, I'm ready to give them some treats. We have to get rid of all that candy because my people will be eating it and then walking my legs off hiking to get rid of all that extra weight from eating all that candy. Don't get me wrong, I love to go hiking with them. I just wish they would take it easy on me, after all I'm not a puppy anymore. Happy Halloween, Fluffy

Hi all, just a timely reminder, please make sure your dogs don't get in to your trick or treat goodies. Chocolate can make your dog very sick. And don't "pig out" yourself, too many treats can make you sick too. Have fun and be safe, see ya Fluffy

Friday, October 29, 2010

Hi, been feeling kinda low lately, don't know why. I just do. Maybe it's because there are so many cats, dogs, kitties and puppies with no homes they could call their own. Winter's coming, cold cement or dirt floors to sleep on and those are the "lucky" ones. At least they are in a shelter, for now....who knows what will happen to them next week. If you can find just a little room in your heart and warm home for an abandoned, homeless dog or cat, give it a try! Chances are excellent that you will find the love of your life, a living, breathing warm body who will give you unconditional love, who won't care how you look or talk. Just give them food, water and a warm place to stay and a little patience and time for them to learn what they must do to make you happy. Thanks, Fluffy

Hey, just thought you all would like to see the cake with a picture of Cinnamon on it we had for our recent Pitbull Adoption Event. Unfortunately, Cinnamon is still at the shelter but at least the cake went. Fluffy
